Bedtime Routine

I have been wanting to share a little bit about our bedtime routine for Maizy. Since the very beginning of  her life, we decided to create a bedtime routine for her. We began by giving her a bath, putting her down around the same time every night and feeding her right before bed.  We found this to be very helpful for all of us! It worked great for her and helped her get to sleep fairly easy. For the first several months we would put her to sleep then put her down in her bed to continue sleeping.

Maizy’s Pediatrician suggested we begin putting her in her own room at 4 months old but I just wasn’t ready at that point so we decided to wait until she was 6.5 months old before beginning to sleep train her. The sleep training attempts failed a couple times before it worked because I just wasn’t ready. the best advice I can give is wait until YOU are ready and feel that your baby is ready. Once I was ready, it worked out wonderfully. I had a hard time being away from her at night but it truly helps us all sleep better when she is in her own room.

When we decided to have Maizy sleep in her own room, we still stuck to her bedtime routine which usually consists of feeding her a meal, giving her a bath, getting her in her pajamas, reading to her and giving her a bedtime bottle. Some other main things we make sure to do is turn on her sound machine and fan. Unless she is sick, she always falls asleep by herself in her crib and sleeps well through the night. When she doesn’t feel well, I usually rock her to sleep then lay her down.

Overall, we feel that having a bedtime routine has been helpful for all of us. Obviously having a perfect bedtime routine is not realistic but we do the best we can. I feel like having a routine at bedtime has also helped getting ready for bed more enjoyable and even fun most of the time. I plan to blog about our sleep training journey and what worked for us as a family. Stay tuned!

9 months of Maizy

The last nine months have easily been the best months of our lives. Parenthood is special, beautiful, messy and hard all at the same time. Being a mother is my favorite calling in life because I have a happy little girl who helps me become more of the person I want to be. The last nine months have also been a bit sleepless! Even when Maizy sleeps all night, mama doesn’t. I tend to wake up throughout the night to make sure she is doing okay. I’m hoping someday soon I can sleep through the night as well 🙂

Maizy is a happy girl who loves eating, playing in water, going outside, pulling herself up on things and being silly. I will admit, the first two months were hard because she was colicky. Jason and I agree that the newborn stage was the most difficult for us but also amazing at the same time! Being a parent has shown us a whole new kind of love and its a special feeling.

Over the last 9 months, we have snapped several photos of Maizy. Photos are important to me because they document so many precious memories. When I look back on the pictures, I can’t believe how much she has grown and changed. Creating Maizy and watching her grow and develop has been incredible, I feel very blessed to be her mother and to be a parent with Jason.

Here are a few precious memories from the last 9 months!

Ecopiggy is a company that sells natural and organic children’s products. Ecopiggy has a variety of great products. Maizy has the Calmies Eco Teether and the Rubbee Blocks. These products are made from all natural rubber. They are really helpful for teething. Maizy loves them and constantly has them in her mouth to help her with teething. Both of these are great quality and babies love them. I highly recommend all of these natural childrens products!

Ashtonbee baby products are our favorite! Ashtonbee has a variety of great baby products. My nine month old has 8 teeth now and these fruit feeder pacifiers are perfect for helping with discomfort during teething. They also make eating safe when first introducing solid foods to babies. We use this fruit feeder daily. Currently, Maizy has been eating strawberry, watermelon, peaches and frozen baby food popsicles out of these fruit feeders. Not only are the fruit feeders great but so are the silicone bibs. These bibs are flexible and adjustable. They help make meal time less messy. They are so easy to clean which is awesome. Both of these products are high quality and easy to use. They are definitely “must haves.”

Another fun and helpful product is their teething toys! They are cute and great to use at home, on the go, during bath time and in the pool. In the photo, Maizy is playing with the fish and ice cream teething toys. She plays with these often because they sooth her gums, sore teeth and they are easy for her to pick up.

Their products are amazing! Also, 5% of their total profits each month goes to Every Mother Counts – a nonprofit organization that’s dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for mothers

Little Sunshine

“The highest and noblest work in this life is that of a mother.” -Russell M. Nelson

On September 19, 2017 at 6:26pm, our little sunshine joined us on earth. Maizy is my sunshine because she gave me a purpose which feels bright and warm. For a very long time, I have struggled with depression and anxiety. Sad thoughts would come to my mind frequently and I questioned my self worth daily. My soul was aching for something pure and special. My sweet husband, Jason was the biggest blessing through everything. He is my very best friend and helped me keep fighting every single day. I prayed and prayed for Gods guidance and help. After a lot of prayer, Jason and I felt strongly about creating a life together. I know everything is in Gods timing, It took several months to become pregnant with our little sunshine. I learned a lot during those months which better prepared me to become a mother. Maizy is our little light sent from God. I am a new woman, a better wife and a happy mama. The gift of motherhood is divine, the most spiritual experience I have witnessed. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be a parent with my sweet husband and a mother to my sunshine.

“Sometimes when you pick up your child you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of her neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart that all the same you could not live without.”
